A Virus!!!

My computer is NOT right...add that on top of the mess I have from not being able to change the background--lol. I do think I have some sort of virus..but so far its not detecting it. If I'm not around for awhile--its because my computer is on the fritz! Hopefully Baldyman will be able to figure this out tonight--I am pretty good at removing viruses but nothing is getting picked up to remove as of yet.

12 Thanks for your comments!:

I hope you can resolve the issue and that you don't become MIA. I see you have a background. Now all you need is the three columns.:>)

When I read "Virus", I thought, Oh no poor Dawn, glad its the computer and not you! I'm sure you'll get it all straightened out. There's definitely some sort of problem though, I lost my visitors counter, and I can't seem to get it back!

Ok we havent found out what is wrong but something sure is. My Protection system is saying all is ok--but i know its not. I downloaded Norton Trial system--that found a couple of things but its still not right..so hubby might have to take it in..so if I"m going for awhile--you all know why!

Before you take it in, try these steps.

1. On another PC, if possible, download AVG Anti-virus from Download.com. It is free.

2. Download Lavasoft Ad-Aware, also free.

3. Install and update them both.

4. Disable system restore. (They like to hide there.)

5. Delete all your temporary internet files and empty your recycle bin.

6. Before you scan, restart.

7. Quickly press F8 while your system is still booting up and you get a prompt asking you if you want to go into "Safe Mode."

8. Go into safe mode and run the scans there.

9. Restart, sign in, and scan again with both applications.

Oh, Norton sucks.

If you want to pay for a good anti-virus, try McAfee.

AVG is very good and it is free.

HERE is a link directly to the download.

HERE is ad-aware.

It may just be spyware and not a virus which is why you are still able to function.

Hi Dawn:
I feel your pain, I've had problems too. A couple of months ago I got disgusted and decided to restore my computer to original state (don't do that) and lost everything and still had a problem. I bought a program at Walmart and it helped a lot. But I still have problems, most of mine is because I am on dial up with aol. We don't have high speed available in our area. It is so slow.
I hope you get it all figured out.

Thanks for all your help Hetik! I do have tht AVG virus protection but I also downloaded Norton because i knew something was wrong and it wasnt getting picked up. I did the Ad-Aware to! Still not right--hubby did bring it in and it had several trojans..so all is ok on that end.!!

BUT...I got more great news---My motor is dying--on a computer less than 2 years old--when it rains it pours huh? Sooo..I'm back for now--hubby is gonna go back to who he had it built with and see what he can do. You know you cant be without a computer these days!
