The price of beauty!

Forgive this photo of my funny feet...BUT this is what I was given at birth. I got some gift certificates for Christmas and my birthday that needed to be used. I went tonight for a pedicure which one certificate covered and then I had another certificate for 60.00 at the same salon. I got myself my hair trimmed...a bottle of shampoo, a thing of anti-aging makeup. I owed 12cents!!!!! Can you believe that? I figured I would have had about 20 or 30 dollars left to maybe treat myself to something else I wont ever buy for me. So between just a hair-cut-no styling, a shampoo, make up--60????? WTH!!!! My toes need polish because I just wasnt blessed with very pretty feet. Can I have 2 birthdays a year without getting older? I decided on the way home I wonder if I should give up on my anti-aging campaign and give in. The price of beauty is overwhelming. Every lady that went to the counter had a bill of a minimum of 67.00!!!! For haircuts--and styles!!! WOWZER! Add a massage, or pedicure, manicure and easily your over 100.00.

I dont know about everyone else but for me..I just cant afford to do this. I do enjoy going to a better salon for my hair because there is a dintinct difference in those and those places that charge maybe 12 or 14.00. For pedicures I'm finding that the little Vietnese ladies that charge 30 dollars and give you great leg and foot massages are the best bargain. They also paint pretty designs on your toes, get your heels nice and soft. Where I went tonight--the price was 30 with no massages or exfoliation of dry skin. And no pretty design.

The price of beauty--its pretty amazing isnt it?

10 Thanks for your comments!:

Dawn, I had a chuckle at the comment you left me tonight! LOL ;)

Yes, the price of beauty can be high! I try to do a lot of my own facials, however, some things I have to go and have done! When I spend the day getting pampered I feel so darn good! I try not to think about what it is costing...I figure..I work pretty dog gone hard..so I deserve a little pampering! Nancy

The price of beauty is tough! I went thru consumer reports magazine and now use the cheaper beauty creams such as Loreal (they were found to be just as effective as the $100 stuff.) I don't do pedicures or nails cuz I never cared about them. But I do agree w/ you on paying for a good haircut.

It is really expensive to try and keep up with all of this stuff. I do splurge on my hairdresser, but I've been going to her for so long that she's kind of "held the line" and hasn't increased what I pay for the past 5 years. And yes, I do tip well. I got my first pedicure 3 years ago at the urging of my daughter and I got hooked! I haven't had one in a while though, I just have a hard time justifying the money right now. Kathy

Dawnie, I so agree. It really is hard to look your best. I try and do most things myself now and do my own pedicures and manicures (its not really the same though). and stretch time out between hair appointments. You are right about the Asian places being the best of nails. I agree. And like you, I have to wear polish on my nails as my feet need all the prettying I can give them.

I am due to go to the hairdressers on Friday and havent been for weeks. The hairdresser gets disgusted with me. He is great but charges like $230 or so. You will just have to ask your family to give you beauty gifts for birthdays, mothers day, christmas etc. Oh the joys of aging.

Dawnie,
I would love to have a pedicure! I agree with the price of beauty, I color my own hair at $7.00 a box so I save money there, but I do like a good haircut! We need spring so bad because then we can get out and plant flowers and forget about the other stuff for awhile. Cindy

Love your posts!yes the price of beauty is sky high, here in NYC its hard to find anything reasonable,I color and trim my own hair now when I realized at my last salon visit I do just as well as they do!,do my own mani's and pedi's,works out fine.

Where I go it is $50 for the manicure and pedicure w/massage. It doesn't get much cheaper than that around here. The fancy spas charge more than that for just a pedicure. That's a luxury item I've had to cut back on especially since Missy wants to go with me every time jacking the bill up to $100 plus tip.

It is amazing and before the economy tanked I used to get facials, massages, pedicures, manicures and my hair colored.. now all I have left is a hair trim once a month. I am even letting the gray grow out. It is a sad state of affairs.

Hi Dawn:
You are so right. The price of beauty is ridiculous, in the big scheme of things. Before my hubby retired and we lived in Vegas I paid $100 for a haircut...now I pay $12.00 at Walmart. I used to get acrylics on my nails every two weeks...not anymore. I cut off all my nails. I color my own hair and do my pedicure myself, except during the summer, I will splurge on a pedicure. I just can't justify spending too much on beauty, I'd rather spend it in Vegas. lol. (I am leaving Sunday for a week in Vegas).

I so love pedi's...that is just the BEST PAMPERING...true it's not cheap to go and do these little things...but just tell yourself...DO I NEED IT, DO I WANT IT or DO I DESERVE IT???? YOU DESERVED IT!
